The team behind STR

A lot of messages to the project start with “Hi all” or ask how big the company behind STR is. The honest answer: the team is one person and one AI. This page shows who does what.

The human

Jens

Jens

Builds STR as a hobby project from Cologne, on evenings and weekends, because working speakers do not belong in the bin.

  • Ideas, direction and decisions. What gets built, what does not, and in which order.
  • Hardware and testing. Real speakers on the workbench, tested in the living room. Volume feedback is provided by the neighbours.
  • Community and support. Every mail gets read, every reply gets decided, and nothing goes out unchecked.
  • Releases and operations. Publishing new versions, keeping the website running and paying the bills for it.

The AI

Claude

Never sleeps, drinks no coffee and still never shows up for the team photo.

  • Code. Writes large parts of the app and this website, following instructions and under supervision.
  • Translations. Keeps the 19 languages of the website and the app translations up to date.
  • Drafts. Provides reply templates for support mails and first versions of texts and forum posts.
  • Research. Reads protocols and documentation faster than any human.

How the AI handles support mails is documented openly in theprivacy policy.

Clear responsibility

Decisions, tests on real hardware and everything that ends up being released stay with me. The AI is tool and colleague at the same time, and a team page should be honest about that. On top of both there is a community that tests, reports back and spreads the word. That replaces a surprising number of departments.

Anyone who wants to help can find open issues onGitHub. Every bit of feedback is appreciated.
